Extinct Animals game quiz online

For more than 150 years, artists and scientists have been depicting prehistoric animals and environments. Early archeologists found fossils, but they were limited in their ability to reveal a real animal's appearance. Prehistoric reptiles might have shared similar bone structures, and today's computers can reveal the true appearance of prehistoric animals. Here are some examples of how computers reveal the true appearance of prehistoric reptiles.

  • Ankylosaurs

If you've ever read about or watched a movie about dinosaurs, you probably have preconceived ideas of what an ankylosaur's body was like. You probably know that the Tyrannosaurus was a huge predator, but did you know that the Ankylosaur was an armored herbivore? Here's what you need to know. These extinct animals are similar to today's crocodiles but are much smaller than the mighty dinosaurs.

The Ankylosaur family of dinosaurs includes species such as Chasmosaurus and Anatotitan. The former was a medium-sized hadrosaur, a duck-billed species that walked on two hind legs. The latter was a large, tank-like sauropod, and both of them had horns. The other group includes the Edmontonia, which was a member of the ankylosaurs, and had a complex tooth arrangement.

The Ankylosaurus lived in a floodplain near the mouth of Hell Creek, Alberta, Canada. It was a thriving ecosystem that featured marshes, streams, and ponds. Other species included reptiles and amphibians, crustaceans, and even sharks. The Ankylosaurus lived in the midst of a vast ecosystem that included birds, reptiles, and invertebrates.

It's important to note that there are similarities between the ankylosaurs and the giant armadillo today, but there are disagreements over the external forms of ankylosaurs and stegosaurids. Many believe that the former were mammals, but they were actually extinct at the time of the asteroid crash. While many species are extinct, some survived to be the ancestors of primates.

  • Psittacosaurus

An integumentary structure of a dinosaur's tail has led scientists to speculate that Psittacosaurus had a penis. The animal was a ceratopsian and lived during the Lower Cretaceous Period, about 65 million years ago. This animal was discovered in China decades ago, and its fossil remained intact for eons. The fossil's delicate scale-studded skin and freckling of pigment remain intact. Psittacosaurus fossils also showed that the animal had a vent for its cloaca, a mysterious structure in dinosaurs. However, the posterior anatomy of the animal gave researchers enough information to piece together a three-dimensional model of the vent.

The dinosaur Psittacosaurus was not as popular with the general public as Triceratops, but it was one of the most complete genera of dinosaurs. More than 150 specimens were found and identified, and many of them are complete skeletons. The fossil record for Psittacosaurus also represents a great number of age classes, allowing for detailed studies of the animal's growth rates.

The Psittacosaurus fossil was unearthed 120 million years ago in China. Its head was about the size of a Labrador retriever, and it had two horns and a bushy tail of long, stiff bristles. The fossil is exceptionally well preserved, and the pigment on its skin can be seen by the naked eye.
