Origin
The geology of the Galapagos archipelago begins below the sea and emerges above the ocean floor. This is where three major tectonic plates meet. The islands are relatively young; Isabela and Fernandina are less than a million years old; and San Cristobal and Espanola are between three and five million years old. The archipelago provides a unique example of the evolution of an ocean island from a volcanic region in the west to an older, non-volcanic island in the east.

The Philippines is an archipelago located in Southeast Asia, approximately halfway between Australia and Asia. Environmental impact
The archipelago and island nations of the world face a myriad of challenges. Human habitat, sanitation, and land use are all prone to problems. Most of the houses are built below their carrying capacity and many are located in areas subject to flooding. Urbanization has created overcrowding and makeshift construction in these islands and resulted in health concerns. Although many islands have implemented tree replanting programs, the issues of urban pollution remain unresolved.
